Dominique Beauchamp of the Journal Les Affaires wrote an article (in French only) entitled « Votre ménage du printemps... en trois coups de balai » on page i-2 that details the suggestions of seven experts. She cites Ian Gascon, president of Idema Investments, who prefers to rebalance portfolios on a systematic basis.
Idema Investments offers diversified portolios where the different asset classes are weigthed to suit the investor profile in most market conditions. Unless significant market variations occur, a yearly rebalancing to the target allocation is usally sufficient. This systematic approach reduces transaction costs and limits the exposure of a portfolio to market excesses while allowing to take advantage of market trends that often last several months.
