Journal Les Affaires - Stock Selection: a myth?
In its September 29th 2012 edition, the Journal Les Affaires published an article (in French only) entitled "La sélection de titres : un mythe?" on page i-8. This article that is part of a regular newspaper column by Ian Gascon, president of Idema Investments, refers to a few studies to make investors aware of the difficulty to select a portfolio of individual stocks that can exceed a benchmark's return over a long investment period. It suggests to reduce the overall risk of the portfolio by diversifying in several asset classes using diversified low-cost products like Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs).
